Our friends Karel and John have been staying with us for the last few days. They stopped by after a swing through southern California and it was wonderful to have this time together. I loved seeing my neighborhood through their eyes.

I also got back in touch recently with a good friend from high school, Paul Alan Bennett, who is an award-winning artist. You can see some of his paintings here and here.

Embassy Suites, Charlotte, NC, 1:00AM

When the recorded loudspeaker message woke us up after midnight I told Roy that I was sleeping and not to bother me. Heaven only knows if I would have walked out of there if he hadn’t told me, step-by-step, what to do: Put on your clothes, put on your jacket, take your pocketbook…I happened to have put my camera in my purse, so you get to see what I saw at 1AM on September 27th, 2008. Fortunately it was a false alarm, so we eventually got to go back to bed.

We’re now safely back in Sedona. When we arrived we were delighted to discover a big bouquet of flowers, courtesy of our friend and house-watcher, Cynthia. It’s been a long day, framed at each end by the unexpected.

We’re back in Brevard after an overnight in Chapel Hill to see AJ’s new apartment. How can he be a college senior already?

As we unpack from this trip, we’re repacking for Sedona and trying to remember where we put what. Where are my professional organizing skills when I need them? Actually my first book was mentioned last week in a New York Times article and was referred to as one of the “gospels” of organizing. Maybe I should re-read that one.

Getting ready to go is always bittersweet.

I saw some interesting sea birds today - they looked like mini-pelicans. I don’t believe that we have pelicans in the northeast, so I wonder what they could be.

We’re closing in on the end of our stay here and I’m absorbing all the impressions that will sustain me until we can return. *sigh* There’s much to do when I get back and I’m looking forward to it, but transitions can be difficult. We’re planning to drive from LBI to Chapel Hill and from Chapel Hill to Brevard. Later next week we fly back to Sedona.

In the midst of our travels, I’ll be participating in a special on-line chat that I’m excited about. I’ve been invited to speak to an international class of Big Picture Scrapbooking students about focusing on the “here and now”. This is a pet project of mine that I hope to expand on once I’m back in Arizona.
